I need more information - how many people, area, how budget per person? Any preference for time of year?
Good luck, Mark
I confronted my mother-in-law to be...confronted my fiance and said "small" or nothing....after much bickering and arguing...we're having a fairly small brunch at the Three Village Inn..they do almost everything for you....honestly if they didn't...I'd just elope...if you all let this five hour event make you sick...you won't have the strength to survive the first battle over whose house you are going to spend the holidays at.....Take your vitamins......and good luck...JessicaE

You might want to check out the Three Village Inn in Stony Brook (I know you said Port Jeff but its not much further west). I don't know of their minimums but I'd guess from the size of their facility, they could accomodate smaller weddings. I think the Country House in SB might also be a good bet....(though I'm not quiet sure about the DJ). In PJ....try Harbor Hills (might be a little pricey but off season may have discounts)....and, believe it or not, try Harbor Gates on Main Street. My company had its holiday party there 3 years in a row on a friday night. They shut the place down for us from 6 - 10pm. They have dj booth, dance floor - the food was really good and i think they were within your price range. I was initially skeptical of the place but was pleasantly surprised.....
A little off the beaten path...I think the Museums at Stony Brook might let you reserve their catering facilities for a nominal fee. You'd have to hire a caterer. I'd suggest Elegant Eating. Very good food though order for more than your amount. the servings are not typically generous
I wish you all the best (its not easy, i know). Let me know how you make out. :)

I'm wondering if the price would be higher on New Years Eve b/c most places have parties and sell couple packages. In order for it to be cost beneficial to the caterer, they'd have to charge you at least what they'd charge per tix for the New YEars Bash in order to not lose money.
I like the idea of New Years Day though - such a wonderful way to start the new year! : )
Good luck!

You might still want to get a price quote from them. I thought the same thing about a place by me - Caffe on the Green. Very high end rest. so I expected their catering to be outlandish. My cousin convinced me to check.....
Turned out that they were competitive w/Leonards of Great Neck AND I would have been the only wedding that day - opposed to being 1 of many.
And if you are looking for January, many places will give you anywhere from 10-20% discount on their normal prices. So what was once out of your reach can be very affordable.
