Pre-cana Part 1
Just a note about my pre-cana part 1 experience this past Saturday...
I didn't know what to expect that day, perhaps religious talk and the what-to-do and what-not-to-do's.
It turned out to be such a great marriage preparation class, mainly due to the couple that lead the class. This couple's only requirement (they are volunteers) to lead the class is to be married for a long time, 40 years in their case. The class itself had nothing to do with religion, rather it was all about the soon-to-be newlyweds. The setup was in a small auditorium at a catholic school and as many as 54 couples attended. Each of us received a booklet with questions on values, finances, communication, sex and other things. After covering each topic with personal experiences and advice from the volunteers, the bride and groom were instructed to fill out the questions separately and then discuss them together.
You think you know your significant other well enough, right? Wrong. I discovered minor things about my FH (we've been together 6 years now), things so small that I thought didn't require discussion.
If there is one thing that struck me the most from this class, it is the ability to adapt to change. Because we will change in years to come and communicating your thoughts is a good way to be in the know.
The volunteers really made it enjoyable and fun for all of us. I've called the place to get a copy of a blank booklet so that I can make copies and share them with my extended family. If anyone would like to see it, let me know and I will scan and send it.
