FH and I are already over budget with our other vendors, so we are trying to save money on the officiant for our on-site ceremony...we are considering using a family friend who is a Suffolk County judge. We are not particularly close with her (I've only met her once or twice years ago), but she is already an invited guest so FMIL thinks she won't charge us but instead offer her service as a gift. I feel like a judge won't be as warm and personal as a traditional officiant who does weddings for a living. Thoughts?

Judge as Officiant
My aunt is a laywer and she had a judge friend officiate her ceremony and it was personal. Im sure you could meet with her to create a ceremony to how you want it

Re: Judge as Officiant
We're having one of my friends get ordained online so she can marry us. If you want personal, I think that's the way to go!
I'm not exactly sure how much it is to get ordained online, but maybe that person could do this for you in exchange of a wedding gift...although not quite sure how that conversation would go.

We are also having a friend get ordained online, it's free.
