Well, with all that's been going on over the last few weeks I've been procrastinating on addressing my invitations. I've started doing them, but had a huge argument with my mother last night because she saw that on the inner envelope I was addressing it as Aunt ___ and Uncle ___ to be a little less formal and in my opinion, a little more personal than if I put Mr. and Mrs. ____ for my relatives that I'm close with. She made it sound like I have ruined the invitations. My question is, are there any absolute faux pas or rules to watch out for when assembling and writing out the invitations?
Personally, (and I don't mean to go off here) but I feel it's nice to add a little personal touch. If I don't end up following the 'rules' exactly, I'm not all that concerned. Just want to make sure I don't totally screw up. At this point, I'm feeling a little overwhelmed I guess.
Has anyone also found there seems to be conflicting ways of addressing the inner envelopes if at all? My FI doesn't want to write on the inner envelopes. My mom says it's a 'must'.

addressing my invitations! am I doing it wrong?
Linda, that's how I did it. On the inner on my grandparents I wrote grandma and grandpa and on aunts and uncles I did to. I only did that on about 4 though because I was running late with my invites and it was taking too much time so on the others the inner said nothing. I read the etiquette book and it said on the inner you write what you call the people or you don't have to write anything at all. I think the answer is there is no right and wrong!! I understand about mother's because every little thing I did my mom made it seem like I had ruined everything!! Hang in there! I have until June 29th!

Linda,
I did mine the same way. I also thought that using the name you call people ('Aunt' or 'Uncle') made the invitations more personal. I also read that you don't have to write anything on the inner envelope, but I think it's helpful to do it if there is any question as to who is invited. We invited no children to our wedding, and hoped that when the invitation read 'John and Mary', that that would clue people in that their children were not included.
In all honesty, I think you should do whatever you are comfortable with. Remember, the most important thing about your wedding day is your marriage! : )
