Ok, so by now most of us have either changed our last name to DH's last name or have decided to keep our own last names.
What I want to know if why you choose to keep your own last name or why you decided to take Dh's last name.
I took DH's last name because he would always joke about how if i didn't he wouldn't marry me. I knew i was going to but i kept baiting him about it throughout our engagement. After the wedding, something came on on TV and it was about changing your last name. I aske dhim again and he finally told me that he would be heartbroken if i didn't love him enough to take his last name since it was a part of him.

Re: Opinions!
I hyphenated my name and DH's last name. I really needed to keep my maiden name in some form for work reasons (and because I am really lazy about things like this), but DH said it would really mean a lot to him if I took his name. So we decided that I would hyphenate since its the best of both worlds. We are both really happy with the decision.
ETA I go by Mrs. DHLastName socially, but at work I am Dr. MyLastName-DHLastName.

Re: Opinions!
i changed mine, i'm now Mrs. Brown (and i love how that sounds!!) because I'm a traditional person and its very important for me to have the same last name as our future kids.

Re: Opinions!
I guess we're both pretty traditional, it meant a lot to DH for me to take his last name and I didn't mind taking it. Plus, We are planning to have children and I want to have the same last name as my kids.

I haven't changed mine officially yet but I will. I am very traditional and want to be Mrs. Cali officially.

Same for me as well. There wasn't any doubt of me keeping my last name, I was ready for the change

Re: Opinions!
I did not and DH didn't care...he hates his last name. I kept trying to get him to take mine.....or shorten hi. But in the end, we stuck with what we've been.

Re: Opinions!
I took DH's name socially and also at work (my door says Lisa DH Last Name, but I've been told they can't change my email address at work unless they 'reload' me as a new employee at work which could mess up my PTO, benefits, etc. therefore, im Lisa (Maiden Name) DH Last Name, Esq. at work.
Still have a few more things to change over - but slowly but surely it's getting done.
I wanted to get rid of my middle name and make it my maiden name (like Hilary) but when I presented that to DH before we were even engaged he was really offended by it. It wasn't a big deal to me, so I let it go.

Re: Opinions!
I'm traditional too and I want to have the same last name as my future kids, but I couldn't wait to get rid of my last name! My dad left my mom and I when I was 3 years old and hasn't really had that much input in my life until very recent. Also, at work, I moved up in the world.....my mailbox moved WAAAAAYYYY across the room

Re: Opinions!
I will expand a bit more. DH was game to shorten his name until his mother had a fit. She kept pressuring me to change my name for the sake of possible future children, then talked crap about me because I am not psyched to jump on the baby train. It made me not want to do it even more.

Re: Opinions!
i'm traditional when it comes to this. I took my husband's last name. You're starting a new family, and a new life. Taking my husband's name is a start to this new. I wanted to have the same last name as my children too.
I will always remember my old name, but having my DH's name makes me feel proud and excited to be his wife

Re: Opinions!
I took DH's last name bc I'm very traditional and old fashioned when it comes to things like this. Same as how I wore a blusher veil over my face, walked down to here comes the bride on the organ, and got married in my family church. There are certain traditions that are important to me

Re: Opinions!
I changed my name to sudak but that was definitely after putting up a fight. I let dh win in the end because I wasnt truly attached to my maiden name I just thought it sounded better

Re: Opinions!
I guess I am the ONLY non-traditionalist.
I kept my last name. I am an only child and it meant a lot to my dad for me to carry the name a little longer. I also love the way my name sounds and wanted to keep it.
It bothered DH, but he didn't make a fuss over it.

Re: Opinions!
Crashing because I think I am one of the few brides that FH is going to change his last name to mine.
My reasoning (long) is that essentially I am an only child and my mother reverted back to her maiden name after my father left us. So technically I have been the only one in my family with that last name. Growing up alone and abused I feel like I made something of myself with my last name. FH's last name was made up so that it could be pronounced better in this country. His family has taken advantage of him and honestly I associate his last name with his family trying to pull him down.
Him taking my last name is like starting a new life and I finally can not be alone with my last name. Sorry I made this long, but I hate when people think my FH is a weak man for taking my name.
