Need Job Advice-Help

I am seriously thinking about leaving my secure (yet incredibly boring and un-fulfilling) job as a staff accountant. I am just not happy and need a change. I just got married and am only 25. I figured I am young enough to make a major change, right?

Anyways, I am interested in going into retail buying--starting out as an assistant buyer. Does anybody here know about this field? the pay? overall experience? work-life balance? any insight would be great...

additionally, most opportunities are in the city...and i live in port jeff...so the commute would be rough, but i am willing to do it if the job was satisfying enough...anybody hear have a major commute like that? again...any insight would be great!

TIA!

Just on the commute....I am not in that field, but I often leave my office at 8 or 9.....and I just have to get to the Upper East Side and sometimes THAT seems far. You would spend like 3-4 hours commuting daily....that can really wear you out

my best friend is assistant buyer, its one of those positions that you have to start at very low and work up. Its also a hard time economicl for the fashion world so it was hard finding a job. She went to school for marketing and textiles? i believe. So right now she works long hours working with the actuale buyers and doing their busy work, in hopes of one day landing a buyers position.
