We went to the Riveria Maya for our honeymoon... stayed primarily in Tulum (not in an all-inclusive) and ran into a bunch of problems.
It was an experience... definitely not the romantic type of trip that i thought it would be, but it definitely was an adventure.
My advise to anyone going down that way is to take a trip into Cozumel... spend some time in Playa del Carmen and hang with the locals in Tulum... you'll have a great time (just as long as you don't stay in a bungalow on the beach)!

7-11 - I used my travel agent who booked my honeymoon - she is in NYC - we almost booked online (cheaper than liberty travel and one other agent I spoke with) but then we called her and she came in a little cheaper and we like her a lot.
Thanks everyone - wish I was still in the sun...tan is already fading.....and I think we are never going to get sun here in NY.....
Marcela - I may have to join you in the tanning salon and I hardly ever do that !!!
