Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice: 2016 Dessert Trends You Can Really Sink Your Teeth Into

April 18, 2016

Couples and their caterers are really dishing out some delish desserts for 2016. And, what they’re serving up goes well beyond the basic and classic wedding cake. Miss American Pie: In a tribute to classic and traditional American confection brides and grooms are slicing up some seriously delicious seasonal sensations that are taking their cue from nature. From traditional apple pie to blueberry and cherry tarts as well as some southern favorites including pecan pie and shoo-fly pie these culinary classics are helping make memories for patriotic pairs. Ethnic Endings: Desserts that pay homage to the couples background and heritage are also a HUGE trend this season. These bite-sized mini cookies and pastries are popping up all over and offer guests the opportunity to sample an array of sweets from around the globe….and some family favorites (maybe right out of grandma’s kitchen) Retro Desserts: Giving a nod the days gone by and to grandma’s baking skills couples are choosing classic confections such as banana’s flambee or banana’s forester that are bringing back some marvelous memories. Stateside Sensations: From Brooklyn egg creams to Southern Sweet Tea, either classic or with a trendy alcoholic twist, couples are drawing inspiration from their towns, states, etc. Childhood favorites: Think boardwalk basics including cotton candy, hot fudge, ice cream carts, taffy, etc. Nostalgia is what’s HOT this spring.
