Bite Sized Extravaganza: Kid Friendly Meals For Your Big Day

Bite Sized Extravaganza: Kid Friendly Meals For Your Big Day

April 13, 2017

As a parent I can tell you first hand that it can be quite frustrating getting your child to eat right….especially when dining out. Besides hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken nuggets,  pasta with butter or plain sauce or French fries there’s not much of  a “sophisticated” selection to please young palettes, especially for kids whose parents are self-proclaimed foodies.

So, if you’re going to put little one’s on your invite list, it’s nice to have something for them to “fine dine” on.

Here are a few marvelous menu selections for your mini guests that can do double duty as hors d’oeuvres for adults.

Appealing Appetizers:

1. Crackers or pretzels and String Cheese or cheese balls
2. Fruits cut into kid-friendly shapes
3. Hummus and pita crisps
4. Crudites or “slightly” steamed veggies and  unique “green” dips
5. Peanut butter and jelly pretzel bits (just make sure the kids don’t have any allergies)
6. Cheddar and broccoli “muffin” bites
7. Mozzarella Stick minis

Marvelous Main Meal Options:

1. Better Than Burgers: Consider serving up some sassy sliders such as pizza burgers or chicken “nugget” burgers…even veggie burgers on a mini bun for little
2. Cheesy Ideas: Gourmet Mini Grilled Cheese using exotic cheeses such as feta, provolone, brie in addition to the standards are sure to be a hit.
3. Seaside Selections: Add mini crab cakes, fresh-made fish sticks (prepared with local fish), salmon cakes, lobster cakes…even cooked fish sushi to the menu.
4. It’s A Wrap: Mini wraps featuring some of your kids favorites, such as tuna, chicken salad, etc.
5.  Personalized Pan Pizzas: Also bound to be a hit with tweens or picky teens. You may want to set up a pizza station where “older” kids can experiment with their own sauces and toppings.
6. French Fries With A Twist: In addition to getting creative with the basics…consider serving up zucchini fries, sweet potato fries, eggplant fries… etc.
7. Posh Pasta Dishes: Kids typically love corn, peas and some carrots….so serve some up over pasta or ravioli. You may also want to consider gourmet “made from scratch” mac and cheese or tiny bite lasagna bits.
8.  Mexican Inspiration: Think mini tacos, fish, meat or chicken.

A Selection Of Mini Confections:

1. Caramel apple grapes
2. Fruit juice gummies
3. Gelato
4. Ice pops
5. Cake pops
6. Watermelon slices on a stick
7. Mini pies and cookies.
